DAY OF REMEMBRANCE,
O-BON MINI-FEST
Day of Remembrance honors our departed ancestors and dear friends on our Memorial Wall with a Buddhist Service chanting the Heart Sutra and offering incense. We will hold a circle following the service where you can speak about your loved one. Bon Dance of a few simple traditional Japanese folk dances will follow along with refreshments. O-Bon is a traditional Japanese Buddhist festival, typically held in mid-July through August, where families dance to honor the spirits of their ancestors.
We will hold free hybrid Bon dance practice on Tuesdays from 7-8 pm CST - July 22, 29, Aug 5, and 12. All are encouraged and welcome to participate. Zoom Link.
To memorialize the name of a loved one on our Wall, we suggest a donation of $200. Deadline for names this year is July 30, 2025. Contact Roshi June for more information at june.tanoue@zlmc.org.
How do we meet this moment we find ourselves in - a world that is changing so fast and is so chaotic and confusing it’s difficult to find our bearings. I am grateful to be a part of a loving Sangha community and a Zen spiritual tradition that nutures a sane, grounded way of living that meets each moment with openness, kindness, deep respect, and grace.
I am an American citizen, but its increasingly difficult to know what that means, as this moment is often given over to division, partison politics, biopolar ideological disagreements, fear, and violence. Is America having a nervous breakdown? This crisis of identity is debilitating. And what adds to it, is the barage of lies and conflicting stories coming at us so fast, we have no way of knowing what is true or false, what is fact or fiction. Overwhelmed by this flood of noise, it’s easy to become numb and to withdraw.
