2:50-4:20 pm: Hula Instruction
4:20-4:25 pm: Break
4:25-5:00 pm: Wind-down
This workshop offers an introduction to mindfulness meditation followed by instruction in “Na Vaqueros,” a hula that honors the significant contributions of Mexican vaqueros to Hawaiian culture. The workshop welcomes all levels of experience. If you are new to hula or returning to the practice after time away, we recommend taking the Beginner Hula Classes in January as preparation.
About the Instructor:
Roshi/Kumu Hula June Ryushin Tanoue is co-founder of Zen Life & Meditation Center alongside her husband, Roshi Robert Joshin Althouse. A practitioner of Zen since 1993, since 1993, June is a fully empowered Zen Teacher and ordained Zen Buddhist priest. As a Kumu Hula (Master Teacher of Hula), June founded Halau I Ka Pono, the Hula School of Chicago in September 2009. She is dedicated to sharing aloha through the sacred art of Hawaiian dance.
