Hsiao-Lan Hu (ze/hir), Ph.D. is Professor of Religious Studies and Women’s Gender Studies at the University of Detroit Mercy, where hir teaching spans Asian religions, gender in world religions, and comparative religious ethics.
Hu has dozens of publications on socially engaged Buddhisms; gender, sexuality, and race issues within Buddhist traditions; feminist and pluralist pedagogy; Buddhist-Christian dialogue; and the rich syncretic traditions of Chinese cultures. Hir monograph, This-Worldly Nibbāna: A Buddhist-Feminist Social Ethic for Peacemaking in the Global Community is an interdisciplinary study that provides a theoretical foundation to social engaged Buddhism.
