Mindfulness Meditation Teacher

Christian Baizan Solorzano

Christian is certified by ZLMC as a “Mindfulness and Meditation Teacher”.

Christian Solorzano is a product designer, educator, and trained meditation instructor who teaches at DePaul University. A passionate advocate for design, the arts, and community building, he founded the Chicago Graphic Design Club in 2020 as a creative outlet where people gather to discuss and learn from books, lecturers, and each other. For over three years, he has shared his natural curiosity and enthusiasm through his newsletter, Beginner's Mind.

Raised by a single mother after his parents separated when he was young, Christian grew up as a self-described troublemaker with an aversion to authority who went against the grain. Music helped him cope with the pains of being a teenager. Today, his small family includes his younger brother Saied, whom he considers his best friend, and his Border Collie, Mu. Christian is also a Brown Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and an accomplished photographer who sells prints through his website.

Despite his aversion to authority, Christian has always had a spiritual and religious inclination. As a child, he attended church with his grandmother, drawn to the cathedral's design, the story of Christ, and the poetry in hymns. Today, he views his spiritual path as a practice rooted in kindness, understanding, love, and gratitude.

Christian came to ZLMC in 2018 to develop a stronger meditation practice. After years of meditating with apps in isolation, he sought connection with other practitioners. "When I first stepped foot through our center's doors, I was welcomed and understood that this community has a deep-abiding passion for helping and serving others," he reflects. He received Jukai in 2020 and continues to study at ZLMC, finding ways to invest time in the center's mission of saving sentient beings.
