Reiki Healing

The Zen Life & Meditation Center of Chicago is happy to announce a new wellness service of Reiki provided by June Tanoue. Reiki is a healing practice that originated in Japan and means "universal life energy". Reiki healing is based on the idea that there is a universal source of energy that supports the body's innate healing abilities. Practitioners seek to access this energy, allowing it to flow through the body and facilitate healing. 

Reiki practitioners place their hands lightly on or just above the person receiving treatment, with the goal of facilitating the person's own healing response. Reiki is used for relaxation, stress reduction and symptom relief, in efforts to improve overall health and well-being. Reiki is also used to treat people with anxiety, chronic pain, HIV/AIDS, and other health conditions. People recovering from surgery or experiencing side effects from cancer treatments have used Reiki as well as people who are dying (and to their families and caregivers) to help impart a sense of peace. Currently, Reiki is experiencing a surge in popularity in American culture as its benefits have been endorsed by prominent teachers of the medical community such as Dr. Oz. Dr. Larry Dossey says Reiki is "the future of healthcare". Reiki can be traced to Dr. Mikao Usui in Japan during the early 20th century. Usui's teachings included meditative techniques and healing practices. June Tanoue was attuned as a Reiki Master Teacher and Practitioner in the Usui tradition in 2006 by Rose Mattax, LCPC, who has over 20 years of experience integrating alternative medicine with traditional psychotherapy. 

Claudia, who has been receiving ongoing Reiki treatments from June said: "This past year I have been in the battle of a lifetime, fighting breast cancer. June has given me Reiki treatments throughout my process of chemotherapy, surgery and radiation therapy. When I leave a session with June, I am reenergized, grounded and reconnected with my presence. With her help as I move from being a cancer patient to a cancer survivor I have gained confidence knowing that I will be okay, my health will improve. I can return to what I love in life. I am truly grateful for my treatments with her."

June is available Monday - Friday, 9 am to 5 pm for Reiki healing sessions. She is also available on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 pm and on Saturdays from 9 am to 12 noon. Cost per Reiki session is $75/$60 for ZLMC members. All appointments are held at Reiki Master, June Tanoue's residence, located at 163 N. Humphrey Ave. in Oak Park, 1/2 block north from the Zen Life & Meditation Center. The house is located one block west of Austin Blvd. and 1/2 block north of Lake Street.
