Fridays with Roshi, May 6, 2011
As part of our 1 Year Annersary celebration, Althouse Roshi asked his students to suggest a topic for him to discuss at for his evening talk on Friday, May 6th. Based on suggestions, he gave a talk about the nature of the spiritual journey referencing the epic poem of Beowulf and some Zen koan stories. A CD of the talk, "The Nature of the Spiritual Journey: Go Straight On" is availalbe in the ZLMC office for $10.
Gourmet Zen Dinner, May 7, 2011
As part of our 1 Year Anniversary celebration, 24 people enjoyed a four course French cuisine sit-down dinner at the Zen Life & Mediation Center on Saturday evening. They were treated to fabulous food, live music and dance and a rich evening of fun, friendship and community. We're grateful to the many hands that made this meal possible.
Appreciation Day, May 4, 2011
On Wednesday, May 4, 2011 the Zen Life & Meditation Center of Chicago's (ZLMC) celebrated it's 1st Year Anniversary. The Appreciation Day was attended by over 40 people who enjoyed an outdoor barbeque, a short speech by co-founders, Robert Althouse and June Tanoue, a toast, a birthday cake and some Hula dancing from the Halau I Ka Pono (Hula School of Chicago).
ZLMC Donating $500 for Japan Relief
On Tuesday, March 22, 2011 for our Zen Eats evening we were able to raise $320. The Zen Center added another $180 to that. On the following day we sent a check for $500 to the Zen Headquarters for North America which will distribute these funds to Japanese people in need because of the recent tragic earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster. We thank all of you who made this event a great success. We continue to hold all the Japanese people in our hearts and prayers during these very difficult times as they bravely struggle to deal with these cataclismic events.
Zen Eats: March 22, 2011, Special Fund Raiser for Japan
Each week the Zen Life & Meditation Center offers a delicious home-cooked meal for a suggested $10 donation to help support our Zen Center. On Tuesday, March 22 we would like to use this Zen Eats as a special opportunity to raise some funds that we will then send to the Soto Zen Buddhism North America Offices, where the money will be used to help the ongoing relief effort in Japan. We are grateful for your continued concern and generosity.
