And you'll hear the vision behind the mission that can empower you to live a Zen-inspired life of openness, empathy and clarity.

NEW YEARS EVE MEDITATION & BREAKFAST – Dec. 31, 10pm to 12 midnight, Breakfast: 1:00 am

snow-zafuBring in the New Year with mindfulness and clarity. Join us for this special New Years Eve Meditation starting at 10 pm on Saturday, Dec. 31. We'll sit 20-25 minute periods interspersed with walking meditation and continue through midnight. We'll sit in silence through the noise and fireworks. Then those who are still awake can join June and Robert at their residence for a special Japanese New Years Breakfast at 1:00 am.

The meditation will take place at the Zen Center located at 38 Lake Street in Oak Park. The breakfast at June and Robert's residence is at 163 N. Humphrey Ave., 1/2 block north of the Zen Center in Oak Park.

This event is FREE and open to everyone. Donations to support the Zen Center are always appreciated. No registration required. Just show up any time between 10 pm and 12 midnight.

Jukai Ceremony for James Kanshin Sullivan

On Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, James Sullivan received the precepts from Joshin Roshi. In a public ceremony called "Jukai", witnessed by family, friends and community, James received the dharma name of "Kanshin" which means "Broad (Magnanimous) Heart". 

We congratulate Kanshin for this milestone in his life. We acknowledge and honor his aspiration and commitment to living a Zen-inspired life of openness, empathy and clarity. 

 

 

ZLT Completion for 2011

shusohossen2011On October 2, 2011 the Zen Life & Meditation Center completed its 6 month Zen Leadership Training (Ango) with a ZLT Closing Ceremony in which Head Trainee, Brendon Shojun Gross delivered a dharma talk and engaged in dharma combat with ZLT participants and friends in attendance. We congratulate all the advanced members for their commitment and participation in this six month training. A special thanks to Head Trainee, Brendon Shojun Gross who lead the community with a steady hand, consistent presence, kindness and thoughtfulness.
